Pig Keeping Course This hands-on course is designed for anyone who is either considering keeping pigs, or already keeps them but wants to further their knowledge. This is a hands-on course where you get to see and handle the pigs on our commercial pedigree pig unit, across a variety of breeds that we use.
The course covers different breeds, housing, handling, feeding, farrowing, boar handling, selection of breeding stock, finishing pigs for meat. It also looks at common diseases and conditions, and their treatment.
This course is usually held on a Saturday and includes a hot lunch and course manual.
Lambing Course Join our sheep for the day and get hands-on with learning all about lambing. The informal, action-packed course will include a mix of listening, observing and doing and is perfect for anyone looking to start keeping sheep, or for a refresher of your skills.
Trainees will discover the importance of preparation for lambing time, including discussion of pros and cons of housing for lambing, nutrition, body condition scoring and what equipment is necessary. This course is held on Saturdays during April when our flock is lambing and includes a hot lunch and course manual.
