- Highly maternal – they are excellent mothers with high milk production and often breeding into a greater age than other breeds
- Docile – a really suitable choice for first time pig keepers and an important consideration for larger operations
- Hardy – the breed is kept in many parts of the UK where extremes of temperatures and weather patterns are experienced, with little effects on productivity
- Quality pork and bacon – as we have found with our on-farm meat sales, there is a huge demand for their high-quality meat. Our experience shows that good management can produce good quality carcases without excessive fat coverage
- Hybrid vigour - they make an ideal crossing breed. Put to a Large or Middle White, the offspring will be white with the advantage of hybrid vigour
